One of the finest Super-8 cameras ever made. The Nikon R10 (and smaller R8) are highly sought-after cine cameras. With excellent build quality from the die-cast metal body to the super lens, they are capable of delivering exceptional quality. See the gallery for a short test video. The user manual is available for download here. The R10 has a 10x zoom lens, with a very fast aperture of f1.4 giving excellent low light capabilities. The R10 has some built-in advanced features that enable great creativity when shooting, including: Full manual exposure control (in addition to automatic) Fade-in and fade-out Overlap / rewind - to fade from one scene to another. This was a groundbreaking achievement that set the R10 apart from all other Super-8 cameras Variable shutter angle 54 / 24 / 18 frames per second This camera is a legend among Super-8 enthusiasts. Externally (and functionally) the R10 is almost identical to the Nikon R8, however internally the R10 has some additional capabilities, specifically the aperture. While most Super-8s have a 2-blade aperture, the R10 has a 5-blade aperture controlled by a dedicated servo. This gives better out-of-focus artifacts, and also greater exposure stability since the aperture will not 'swing' as the camera moves. The camera takes 5 x AA batteries in the sturdy grip. Condition In overall excellent condition Leatherette in very good condition Lovely clean lens All functions working perfectly Clean battery compartment

This is a beautiful example of the Canon DS-8, which is an example of a camera that takes double Super-8.  This film format is an interesting hybrid - it is the same size as 16mm film, however the camera shoots on one side of the film. After the spool ends the film is flipped around so that you shoot on the other side. Note that this camera does not take regular Super-8 cartridges, so it is more of a specialist format. Here is a company that sells the film (and processes / scans them): DS8 Films – On8mil.com Canon provides more information on the camera here: Zoom DS-8 - Canon Camera Museum (global.canon) The camera is actually very similar in form to the 16mm Canon Scoopic 16, but it has some additional capabilities, notably a variable shutter and the ability to fade out / fade in and also reverse the film. This means that you can do lap-dissolves (not possible on the Scoopic 16). It shares the same motorised automatic aperture system as the Scoopic. Advantages of double Super-8 (over Super-8) include: Superior film transport system (based on a 16mm camera) for greater image stability compared to a plastic Super-8 cartridge Longer film runs - a DS-8 spool is 100 feet, so you can film 6 minutes continuously before having to flip the spool (compared to around 3 minutes for a Super-8 cartridge). One full DS-8 film therefore lasts for 12 minutes in total. Condition Cosmetically in excellent condition In full working order. Motorised aperture fully operational, and all film speeds working well. Clean battery compartment and with original battery holder (designed to take 8 x alkaline AA batteries) Very clear lens with no scratches or mould Clear viewfinder. A few blotches on the focusing screen, but generally very good.

Ever ruined a Super-8 film by having dust / hair around the edges of the frame, or mould in the lens ?  We know how disappointing it can be when you get your Super-8 film processed and it is ruined by hair, dirt or debris around the edge of the image. Worse still if the image is fuzzy due to hidden mould inside the lenses, or the camera aperture isn’t working. This is always a challenge with Super-8 cameras, as the light path for the film is different to the light path for the viewfinder meaning that you can’t spot these problems just by looking through the viewfinder. We have the ultimate tool for viewing both:           A magnified view of the film gate           A through-the-lens image Our mirror test cartridge is the same size as a Super-8 cartridge and it simply slots into your camera to give you a clear view of the film gate. By pulling the trigger to start the camera, you get a great view of the film gate and also through the lens. Note that it is only for use with cameras that load film via a side door. A unique feature of our tester is the screw-in magnifying lens that gives a really clear view of the film gate. Simply clean the dirt and debris carefully using a cotton bud and gently blow out, then check again. We recommend using this tester before every film, as dirt can easily creep into the film compartment at any time. In addition the magnifier what makes our tester truly unique is that it can be set to match the film cartridges of all current Super-8 film types. Super-8 cartridges have two notches in the side which tell the camera:           The film speed (ISO)           The film type (Daylight or Tungsten) The film speed slot (the upper one) normally operates a lever in the camera, and its position tells the camera what film speed you are using so that the camera meter settings are correct. The film type slot operates another lever which swings a little orange filter in or out of the film path, to ensure that the color balance is correct. Our tester comes with a set of plastic inserts which slot into the test cartridge, and enable the cartridge to appear to the camera like any of the current Super-8 film types:           Kodak Vision 3 50D:  ISO 50 (speed), Daylight colour balance           Kodak Vision 3 200T: ISO 200 (speed), Tungsten colour balance           Kodak Vision 3 500T: ISO 500 (speed), Tungsten colour balance           Kodak Tri-X: ISO 200 (speed), Daylight color balance           Ektachrome 100D: ISO 100 (speed), Daylight color balance Any questions at all - please don't hesitate to ask !

The Nikon R8 (and larger R10) are highly sought-after cine cameras. With excellent build quality from the die-cast metal body to the superb lens, they are capable of delivering exceptional quality. See the gallery for a short test video taken with this camera. The R8 has an 8x zoom lens, with a very fast aperture of f1.4 giving excellent low light capabilities. The user manual is available for download here. The R8 has some built-in advanced features that enable great creativity when shooting, including: Full manual exposure control (in addition to automatic) Fade-in and fade-out Overlap / rewind - to fade from one scene to another. This was a groundbreaking achievement that set the R8/10 apart from other Super-8 cameras Variable shutter angle 54 / 24 / 18 frames per second This camera is a legend among Super-8 enthusiasts. The camera takes 6 x AA batteries in the sturdy grip, and 2 SR44 (with brass adaptors - supplied) for the meter. As an option we can offer the R8 with a conversion so that the meter is powered from the main batteries via a stable 2.7v voltage regulator. This eliminates the need for separate meter batteries, and also improves exposure accuracy since the regulator supplies the same voltage as the original mercury batteries for which the camera was designed. Please allow a few extra days for this to be completed if selected.
