One of the easiest SLR cameras to use - simple controls and automatic operation. Introduced in 1983, the T50 is aimed at simplicity. It has motorized film winding with easy film loading, and operates in Program Automatic mode. This means that the camera sets both the shutter speed and aperture, so all you need to do is focus the lens and shoot. The controls on the top are minimal, so it is hard to get things wrong, and the zoom lens lets you get closer to the action. Originally aimed at serious amateur photographers, the SRT-Super has all of the features you could need in a manual SLR camera. Build quality is legendary (both inside and out). No surprise that Minolta sold a million of them. Released to improve upon the lovely SRT-101, the SRT-Super (also known as the SRT-102) addded the following features: Viewfinder display of your selected lens aperture Focusing screen rangefinder patch to make focusing more accurate Multiple exposure capability With a solid metal body the camera can operate without batteries (only the light meter needs them). The viewfinder has a display of shutter speed at the bottom, with the right side having a needle that indicates if exposure is correct. Simply change the shutter speed or aperture to align two needles and set the correct exposure. At the top of the viewfinder the selected lens aperture is shown. The camera’s light meter measures exposure through the lens using twin sensors for accuracy. There is a huge range of Minolta lenses of different eras that can all be used on this camera. The camera has a depth-of-field preview button so that you can check before taking photo, plus a self-timer. A nice example of the Nikon FE film SLR. Comes with an original 36-72 f/3.5 zoom AI zoom lens. The FE has aperture-priority automatic, in addition to full manual exposure modes and superb build quality. A groundbreaking camera that showcased Canon’s first use of computerization to control camera functions. Excellent functionality combined with ease of use. Introduced in 1984, the T70 has an onboard computer and a good set of features. It has motorized film winding and rewind, and Program Auto, Shutter Priority and Manual Exposure modes (comparable to the Canon AE-1 Program). It has a simple but very clear viewfinder display that tells you which mode you are using, plus the aperture that the camera is selecting. In Program Auto mode, you simply need to focus the lens and click the shutter. In Shutter Priority mode, you can select your chosen shutter speed using the up/down buttons on top of the camera, and the camera will automatically select the correct aperture to give perfect exposure. To the left the camera has a slide switch that turns on the power and selects the metering mode / self timer The camera is clever in offering two metering modes: Average metering (good for most situations) measures the light across the whole frame. Partial metering measures the light in the centre only which is great for tricky situations such as backlit subjects or deep shadow. One of the finest cameras of the era. The A-1 was the top of the range of 'A' cameras introduced by Canon in 1976 that also includes the AE-1 and AE-1 Program. It builds on the other models by providing a full range of exposure modes including: Full manual Full program auto Shutter Priority Aperture Priority It does this cleverly using controls that are extremely clear and easy to operate. It is a beautiful camera to use. Compared to other models in the 'A' range it has a huge range of shutter speeds (from 30 seconds to 1/1000) and a full LED digital display of shutter speed and aperture in the viewfinder. The Olympus OM-1 is a very slick SLR with beautiful shutter / winding action and a large, bright viewfinder. It has a meter (operated by the battery) while all shutter speeds are mechanical so can be operated without batteries. It is very easy to use, whereby you simply adjust the shutter speed or aperture until the camera tells you that the exposure is correct via the needle in the viewfinder. It is very easy to shoot with and will really help you to learn about the fundamentals of photography. The Canon AE-1 Program was released as the successor to the wildly successful Canon AE-1. In addition to the capabilities of the AE-1, it also has the additional 'Program' exposure mode, whereby the camera selects both the shutter speed and the aperture, to fully automate exposure. It also has a very nice handgrip on the side (which can be removed when an auto-winder is attached).
