The viewfinder has a display of shutter speed at the bottom, with the right side having a needle that indicates if exposure is correct. Simply change the shutter speed or aperture to align two needles and set the correct exposure. At the top of the viewfinder the selected lens aperture is shown. The camera’s light meter measures exposure through the lens using twin sensors for accuracy. There is a huge range of Minolta lenses of different eras that can all be used on this camera. The camera has a depth-of-field preview button so that you can check before taking photo, plus a self-timer. One of the finest cameras of the era. The A-1 was the top of the range of 'A' cameras introduced by Canon in 1976 that also includes the AE-1 and AE-1 Program. The Olympus OM-1 is a very slick SLR with beautiful shutter / winding action and a large, bright viewfinder. It has a meter (operated by the battery) while all shutter speeds are mechanical so can be operated without batteries. It is very easy to use, whereby you simply adjust the shutter speed or aperture until the camera tells you that the exposure is correct via the needle in the viewfinder. It is very easy to shoot with and will really help you to learn about the fundamentals of photography. The Canon AE-1 Program was released as the successor to the wildly successful Canon AE-1. In addition to the capabilities of the AE-1, it also has the additional 'Program' exposure mode, whereby the camera selects both the shutter speed and the aperture, to fully automate exposure. It also has a very nice handgrip on the side (which can be removed when an auto-winder is attached). The lovely Pentax MX is excellent for beginners, but has fantastic build quality. With a full metal chassis and metal top / bottom it is built to last. We generally have both silver and black bodies in stock. Let us know if you have a preference. Includes a reprint of the original instruction manual. (Note that the famous Pentax K1000 is actually a budget / reduced functionality version of the MX). The MX is a much more compact camera. It operates in full manual mode, with the built-in light meter. The viewfinder displays the selected shutter speed and a series of lights to indicate if you are over / under exposed. Just turn the shutter or aperture rings until the green light comes on. Also has a self timer, and depth-of-field preview - a useful feature that is normally on higher-end cameras of the era. This a very compact, fully mechanical SLR - the shutter speeds all operate independently of the battery (which is only needed to power the light meter). Nikon’s first ever autofocus SLR and winner of the 1986 Camera Of the Year award. Blends high technology with traditional exposure controls – an awesome combination. The Nikon F-501 was Nikon's first popular autofocus SLR for 35mm film, launched in 1986. Nikon cameras at the time were aimed at the pro / advanced consumer market and this camera demonstrates superb build quality.  It has a built-in motorised film drive (up to 2.5 shots per second), and with autofocus is excellent for sports and wildlife photography.  Unlike more recent cameras, most controls are via buttons and dials on the body - much better and faster to use than menus on tiny LCD screens.
