Originally aimed at serious amateur photographers, the SRT-101 has all of the features you could need in a manual SLR camera. Build quality is legendary (both inside and out). No surprise that Minolta sold a million of them. Released to compete with similar cameras of the era (e.g. the Canon FTb), the SRT-101 is part of a small group of cameras manufactured with build quality in mind, rather than the use of cheaper components. With a solid metal body the camera can operate without batteries (only the light meter needs them). It has one of the largest and brightest viewfinders in an SLR (that puts many later cameras to shame), making it great for composing your photos and capturing great images. The viewfinder has a display of shutter speed at the bottom, with the right side having a needle that indicates if exposure is correct. Simply change the shutter speed or aperture to align two needles and set the correct exposure. The camera’s light meter measures exposure through the lens using twin sensors for accuracy. There is a huge range of Minolta lenses of different eras that can all be used on this camera. The camera has a depth-of-field preview button so that you can check before taking photo, plus a self-timer. The Pentax ME-Super s a lovely point-and-shoot film camera from the 1980s. It has automatic exposure and also full manual mode. In automatic, just select the lens aperture, focus the lens and click the shutter. This makes it very easy to use, while also giving you control over aperture which is great for portraits where a wide aperture will give you a nice blurred background ('bokeh'). The ME Super also has full manual mode, whereby you can select the aperture and also the shutter speed (using the up/down buttons on the top of the camera).  The viewfinder display shows you both the shutter speed you have selected, plus the camera's recommended shutter speed so you easily know whether you are over / under exposing. Great for creativity and great for learning more about photography. The Pentax cameras of this era (including the MX and ME) have lovely compact bodies and beautiful bright viewfinder so they are joy to use, and more compact than other SLRs. The ME-Super has a 'B' shutter setting which you can use for long exposure night photos, plus a self-timer. One of the most stylish SLRs ever made, the Canon F-1 is a beautiful camera to use. It was in production for a full 10 years from 1971 until 1981, underlining its status as one of the key professional cameras of the era. It operates in full manual mode, with the built-in light meter. The viewfinder has the match needle system, but also displays the selected shutter speed.  It has a lovely slick wind / shutter release action, and can operate without batteries (only the meter uses battery power). Has a removable prism, and many different focusing screens available along with a huge range of professional accessories. The camera operates fully mechanically, and only uses the battery for the light meter. The F-1 is fairly sensitive to battery voltage so we recommend using either a Wein Cell or a 1.35v battery adaptor for meter accuracy. Supplied as body only. Condition Very good condition with no dents Focusing screen has a little light dust but no marks or damage.   All functions are working correctly including all shutter speeds and light meter.

A lovely example of the Olympus OM-2 film SLR, which is a great step up from the OM-1.  On the outside it looks like a very similar camera, however the OM-2 adds automatic exposure control (shutter priority) to the all-manual control on the OM-1. You simply set the aperture and the camera selects the right shutter speed. In manual mode the viewfinder shows a needle with + / - marks to indicate over / exposure - very clear to use. In automatic mode, the viewfinder display changes to also show the shutter speed. Very simple controls make this a good choice of camera for all. This camera is available with either an f/1.4 or f/1.8 50mm lens.  Condition Body in good condition with some scuffs from usage. Good condition original 50mm Olympus lens.  All functions are working correctly including the light meter and all shutter speeds  

The lovely Pentax MX is excellent for beginners, but has fantastic build quality. With a full metal chassis and metal top / bottom it is built to last. We generally have both silver and black bodies in stock. Let us know if you have a preference. Includes a reprint of the original instruction manual. (Note that the famous Pentax K1000 is actually a budget / reduced functionality version of the MX). The MX is a much more compact camera. It operates in full manual mode, with the built-in light meter. The viewfinder displays the selected shutter speed and a series of lights to indicate if you are over / under exposed. Just turn the shutter or aperture rings until the green light comes on. Also has a self timer, and depth-of-field preview - a useful feature that is normally on higher-end cameras of the era. This a very compact, fully mechanical SLR - the shutter speeds all operate independently of the battery (which is only needed to power the light meter). The MX has no auto-exposure mode, but it is very easy to shoot with and will really help you to learn about the fundamentals of photography.
