FILM TESTED Canon Canosound AF514XL-S Autofocus Super-8 camera.
Couldn't load pickup availability
This camera just had a new film drive cog installed.
Canon made many of the famous 514XL-S Super-8 camera, but also made an autofocus version - the AF514XL-S.
It does everything that the 514XL-S does, but with the added feature of an autofocus system.
There are 3 focusing modes:
- Manual focusing
- Normal autofocus - the camera adjusts focus continuously
- Autofocus lock - the camera locks focus and then retains that setting
This was an early implementation of an autofocus system, so don't expect the speed and accuracy of a modern camera, but it works pretty well (it certainly focuses faster than we can do manually !).
See the gallery for a test film shot with this camera.
Has a folding hand grip (that holds the batteries) that folds up when not in use for easier portability.
Controls are very clear and simple and the specifications include:
- Power zoom (9 - 45mm) with variable speed
- Fast f1.4 lens
- Automatic exposure with manual lock for extra control
- 18 / 24 frames per second
- Battery check button
- Aperture value displayed in viewfinder
- Film remaining indicator on the side of the camera
- Takes ASA 25-160 daylight film, and 40-250 tungsten
- Manual daylight / tungsten filter control switch
Takes 6 x AA batteries.
Condition
- Body in good condition with just some light signs of use
- Nice clear lens.
- In full working order - all film drive gears running smoothly
