Zeiss Movikon 8: 8mm retro cine camera
Zeiss Movikon 8: 8mm retro cine camera
This is a rare example of the vertical Zeiss Movikon 8. One of the most stylish 8mm cameras we have seen, with inlaid leather and very solid build quality.
Comes with original leather box (although one end of the strap is broken).
A wonderful gift for a movie fan - looks great on your study shelf !
The camera has a Zeiss Sonnar 10mm f/2 lens which appears pretty clear.
Specs include:
- Clockwork film drive
- Single shot / Continuous filming switch on front of camera
- Frame rates of 8 / 16 / 64 per second
- Viewfinder with film remaining indicator
- Shooting lens appears fairly clear.
- Aperture operates smoothly
- External leather has usual dirt and wear from use, but no tears
- Clockwork drive operates smoothly (see video)
- Leather case is in pretty good condition apart from the broken strap, and the lid needs a little stiching repair.
- Viewfinder - generally bright but with a little mould.
- Clockwork film drive - smooth wind and smooth shooting at all speeds
Note that this camera takes Double-8 film (not Super 8) which is rather a specialist format. We have not film tested this camera so can't guarantee fully, but the meter and clockwork drive seem to work OK. See the video for the clockwork drive operating.

The camera runs on a clockwork motor using a clever centrifugal governor that maintains the motor at the correct speed.
